Happy Holidays!

Posted in Uncategorized on December 26, 2009 by Brian

We had a tremendous run up to the Christmas holiday at Kakao, and we thank all of you for your patronage and patience as we made and served as much chocolate as we could.

Which turned out to be a lot. We were thrilled at how many folks sent Kakao chocolates as presents this season. Handmade, all-natural chocolates make for a great gift! By our calculations, we made as much chocolate this month, December 2009, as we did in all of 2008. And we absolutely couldn’t have done it without the chocolate and confection-making team of Shannon and Kate. Thanks, ladies!

We’re taking a break now, but will be back next week, restocking the shelves, developing new recipes, and coming up with new ideas for 2010. Starting on Tuesday, December 29, we’ll be open our regular hours, Tuesday – Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — but we’ll be closed for the New Year’s Day holiday.

We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and have the opportunity to focus on the people in your life most important to you. Happy Holidays from all of us at Kakao!

Chocolate Holiday Magic

Posted in Uncategorized on December 2, 2009 by Brian

In case you haven’t heard the radio ads, seen the tv commercials, or noticed the big billboards, there’s a huge holiday event at America’s Center this weekend.

This event will have everything: craft demonstrations, a culinary stage with chef competitions, a beer and wine garden, live entertainment with carolers, acrobats and a drumline (not all at the same time), a pet parade, and even a World Bird Raptor Show.

And chocolate.

Here at Kakao we’re ramping up for the weekend-long Holiday Magic event, making chocolates and confections and all the delicious gifts that people will want to give for the holidays — including our eggnog truffles and gingerbread truffles. The show hours are:

  • Friday, December 4, 12:00 Noon to 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 5, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 6, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • If you can’t make it downtown, be sure to stop by the second annual Green Living Expo at the Missouri History Museum on Sunday, December 6, from noon to 4 p.m., where we’ll also have our chocolatey treats.

Or, of course, you can visit the Kakao shop and cafe at 2301 S. Jefferson in St. Louis. We’re open Tuesday – Friday from 7 a.m. (we’ve got a selection of coffees from the best roasters in St. Louis) to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

And if you enjoy wine and chocolate (who doesn’t?), be sure to join us at the Yellow Farmhouse Winery in Defiance on Saturday, December 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. for their annual Christmas Walk, an evening of special treats and food and wine (and chocolate) pairings. We’ll have our Yellow Farmhouse Dessert Wine Truffles, too!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Kakao is welcoming back LUSH, those great soapy folks, to our shop on Tuesday, December 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. They’re bringing a special selection of gifts, just in time for the holidays. And of course we’ll have chocolate samples and a bit of wine to go with it.

    See you soon!
